So many times, we find ourselves consumed and lost in our work and stresses. In fact, over the last few year, the overall stress levels in America have actually increased (Source). With all this stress, we can forget to be in wonder of the world around us and to slow down and relax. As a Christian, I find myself in awe of creation around me and in the God who created it all. The goal of this work is to remind people to look around and be in awe and wonder of the beauty and mystery around them.

This project is actually a playable game that allows the player to walk around an enchanting area. It uses the first person perspective to allow the player to choose what they look at. The project offers a unique experience for every person who sits down to play it in a gallery setting as every player will find themself beginning in a different area depending on where the last player left the camera.

To me, the greatest mystery there has ever been. The plate reads “βασιλεὺς τῶν Ἰουδαίων” which translates to “Jesus the Nazarene king of the Jews”.

This project was made in the Unity game engine, a software I have never used before. I was impressed with how powerful the software was and how it utilized C# to allow the developer to program the world. As a computer science major who has experience with other game engines, I found Unity to be easy to use in creating my vision.

Original rough sketches of the idea

The idea for the project was originally much more focused on faith and was going to be a Virtual Reality recreation of the crucifixion scene but after thinking about it, I found that the idea was too on the nose and wanted to make it more abstract. I also switched from Virtual Reality to first person after realizing that I did not have the time to learn all the code and figure out some of the logistics.

A still from the game, Flower

This project changed to what it ended up being in a large part due to inspiration from the game Flower designed by Jenova Chen and Nicholas Clark. The game forces the player to play as a flower petal moved by the wind that cause other flowers to bloom and come to life.
